I live in Kukkatpally ,Hyderabad , India. It is supposed to be the largest planned housing colonies in Asia.
My profession demands me to drive at least 40-50 km everyday. I drive at different times of the day.
At 5 am, it takes me hardly 15-20 minutes to reach Secunderabad station, but it takes more than one and half hours when I return at 7pm if there are no jams in normal traffic. But many times I spend more than 2 hours for the same stretch of 12 km.
This video is proof of this chaotic state of traffic . It applies not only to Hyderabad, but all other cities in India. The city is developing, but the roads are not wide enough to accommodate the traffic. The road users do not follow the traffic rules. No one feels any responsibility. Every one blames others. Most of us become silent spectators to many a “Tamasha’ that goes on in public. No one takes the initiative to question.
It is the two wheelers and autos which initiate the traffic jams in many cases. They have no lane discipline at all. I don’t mean that the others are not responsible.
The youth has to play a great role if this has to change. Unfortunately the youth now is aiming at very big things without taking notice of smaller issues in their vicinity. Disciplined traffic is a descent way of life. If any of you have noticed how the tribal tread the narrow paths in Hills in a single file, you will know who is backward as far as traffic sense is concerned.
Now the new Government at centre and state has many youngsters. Hope they will give priority first to set their house in order. Will you Dr. Jaya prakash?
