Read this article before you read my post
After reading this article I started recounting the last days of my mother who lived for 87 years and expired recently.
My mother got married at the age of 9 . Gave birth to her first child at 14 and conceived thirteen afterwards, eight of them are living now. To my knowledge she was never admitted in an Hospital till her 84th year. She delivered all her children at home with out the help of a doctor.
Till 84 she took care of herself and my father . Four years prior to her death she had a minor attack due to hyper tension and later fell down and fractured her hip joint. She was disabled for the rest of her life . By then She lost interest in life and did not live long after wards. Looking back I some times ask my self whether we could provide the proper medical care that she needed at that age at home.
We are all put in a great dilemma . Should the old be sent to Nursing homes or should they not .At home we can not provide hospital care. We can not maintain a proper diet. Nursing homes have trained staff. They take lot of care. They give priority to avoid bedsores and loss of weight. But in the Nursing homes the old miss the company of their loved ones.
So the best option is , if the old are kept in Nursing/ old age homes, the children must stay very near to the Nursing Home and must visit them regularly. They should never allow the old to feel that they are neglected .This way they will get the benefits of trained staff and facilities and at the same time they can keep them happy .
